Ukrainian Railways (UZ) made a profit of UAH 460.11 million in 2023 by selling 76.39 thousand tonnes of ferrous scrap in the Prozorro

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) made a profit of UAH 460.11 million in 2023 by selling 76.39 thousand tonnes of ferrous scrap through the Prozorro.Sale system. Revenue fell by 31.3% and raw material sales fell by 32.4% as compared to 2022.

As a result, UZ was able to conduct 101 raw material auctions throughout the year. The principal purchasers are as follows: 

  • 24 lots of Dniprostal (19.98 thousand tonnes for UAH 109.35 million); 
  • 17 lots of Metinvest-Resources (16.48 thousand tonnes for UAH 77.85 million); 
  • 15 lots of Central Plus (10.29 thousand tonnes for UAH 79.35 million).

The railway operator’s scrap metal was also purchased by Energosteel Plant, Ecotovresurs, Keramet, Ukrmet-Invest, Ukrmet Centre, Allianzmetprom, and other companies.

Scrap sold included a variety of raw materials such as rails, wheels, pads, wheel axles, railcar frames, and so on.

According to Shree Metal Prices, Ukrainian Railways sold 113.04 thousand scrap ferrous metals in 2022, bringing in a total of UAH 669.98 million. In comparison to 2021, this is 55.4% and 43.8% less, respectively.

These were the biggest purchasers of raw materials:

The following lots are available:

  • 37 lots for Metinvest-Resources (33.28 thousand tonnes for UAH 178.1 million); 
  • 36 lots for Dniprostal (30.34 thousand tonnes for UAH 155.66 million); 
  • 16 lots for Ferolit (12.3 thousand tonnes for UAH 95.19 million).

Over the course of the year, the railway operator intended to sell 170,000 tonnes of scrap. The weight of the 13,000 railcars that the state-owned company planned to disassemble for scrap is included in the above figure.
