India’s Commerce Minister, Piyush Goyal, held a private meeting with senior executives from Tesla last week to discuss the carmaker’s intentions to establish a manufacturing plant in the country.
Tesla aims to produce a low-cost electric vehicle (EV) priced at $24,000, targeting both the Indian market and export.
The meeting, which took place in a New Delhi hotel, involved Tesla’s executives Rohan Patel and Roshan Thomas, along with at least one other government official.
This meeting marked a significant step in Tesla’s plans. Following CEO Elon Musk’s meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June. Details of the discussion keep confidential, with both Tesla and India’s commerce ministry declining to comment.
