South Africa’s Base Metal Exports Drop by 3.2% in March

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has released data showing that the value of base metal and article exports from South Africa in March of this year was ZAR 17.48 billion ($941.5 million), a 3.2 percent decrease from February.

South Africa’s exports value of base metal and their byproducts fell by 7.4% annually to ZAR 52.70 billion ($2.83 billion) during the January–March period.

South Africa’s imports of base metals and their byproducts reached ZAR 8.24 billion ($443.8 million) in March of this year, up 8.0 percent from the prior month.

In comparison to the same period in 2023, the country’s imports of base metals and byproducts increased by 2.0 percent to ZAR 24.20 billion ($1.30 billion) in the first 3 months of this year.”
