Germany imported 154.98 thousand tonnes of rolled steel products from 3rd countries in January–February 2024, a 1% increase over the same period in 2023. This is based on calculations made by the Eurostat data.

Over the course of two months, imports of flat products rose 42.1% year over year, while imports of long products fell 9.1% year over year to 42.65 thousand tonnes and 112.33 thousand tonnes, respectively. In January-February 2024, over 72.5% of Germany’s total steel imports were made up of long products.

The majority of imports were made up of rebar (34.36 thousand tonnes, -22% y/y), wire rod (19.99 thousand tonnes, +83.5% y/y), and other rods and bars, specifically made of corrosion-resistant steel angles, shapes, and special profiles (11.77,000 tonnes, +10.3% y/y).

Germany imported 78.99 thousand tonnes of rolled steel products in February, a 4.8% year-over-year decrease. Long product supplies rose 1.7% year over year to 69.03 thousand tonnes. While flat product supplies decreased 34% year over year to 9.97 thousand tonnes.
