According to the Brazilian Steel Institute IABr, the country produced 2.78 million metric tonnes of crude steel in February 2024, 13.1 percent more than in the same month the previous year.
When compared to the same comparative basis, the output of flat products increased by 4.5 percent to 1.04 million mt, the production of long products by 2.9 percent to 788,000 mt, and the output of rolled products raised by 3.8 percent to 1.83 million mt.
Comparably, apparent consumption of steel products rose by 11.5 percent to 1.9 million mt and domestic sales of steel products raised by 7.3 percent to 1.6 million mt. Meanwhile, imports and exports raised by 37.2 percent and 26.1 percent to 700,000 mt and 700,000 mt, respectively.
Crude steel output rose by 1.91 percent in January 2024 compared to January 2024; domestic sales remained stable; exports decreased by 22.2 percent; apparent consumption decreased by 5.0 percent; and imports raised by 21.5 percent.
