Russia’s Gazprom GAZP.MM produced 404 bcm of natural gas in 2023, decreased around 9% from the previous year due to lower exports to Europe, the Kommersant newspaper reported late on Thursday.
The biggest producer of natural gas in Russia has not revealed its output figures and has not offered any commentary on its output.
In an interview with the energy ministry’s internal magazine on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Russia’s pipeline gas exports to China and Europe in 2023 amounted to 91.4 billion cubic metres, a decrease of about 30% from 2022.
Following the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine and the damage to the Nord Stream pipelines in September 2022, gas exports to Europe—which had previously been its main source of energy revenue—fell precipitously in 2022 and 2023.
